The goddess, one of the most-popular female goddesses in Hinduism, is painted seated on a lion, her vehicle. On her eight hands, she is holding lotus, conch and some weapons. Goddess Durga was born out of the combined forces of the Gods in order to kill the demon Mahishasur, who wrought havoc on earth and Heaven.
